About

Northwest Junior Pipe Band and White Spot Pipe Band are two of the top youth pipe bands in the Northwest.  Northwest Junior from the Seattle area of Washington State in the USA, with a 15 year history is the 3 time Washington State Champion Pipe Band, the 2010 Washington State Grade 3 Pipe Band Champion, and current Pacific Northwest Grade 4 Pipe Band Champion. White Spot from the Vancouver area of BC, Canada has a 54 year history, and has won the Pacific Northwest Grand Aggregate Championship in Grade 4 eight times.

The bands have competed very closely for the past several years, and built strong friendships among band members.  Both bands have many talented musicians who needed a new challenge beyond the "Grade 4" competition grade this year and the directors of both bands agreed to work closely together to provide a new opportunity with a combined force in the challenging Grade 3 band level in the 2010/2011 competition season.

Both bands will maintain independent bands in the Grade 5 and / or Grade 4 levels while continuing to provide top instruction to the next generation of up and coming pipers and drummers, but this larger force in Grade 3 will compete together during the summer competition season and culminate their experiences together competing in the Juvenile class in Glasgow, Scotland in August 2011 at the World Pipe Band Championships.

In 2008, both bands travelled to the World Championships, with Northwest Junior placing 5th in Novice Juvenile, and White Spot placing 6th in Juvenile.  Both bands have a few members remaining who participated in those trips.

Maintaining a top level youth music organization means a constant focus on recruiting young players, providing opportunities at multiple levels for them to compete and succeed, while ensuring their most talented players are challenged and able to continue improving their skills.  This opportunity will provide just such a challenge to the top players from both bands, as well as memories of cooperation, travel and experiences to last a lifetime.
